A little bit of NYC in Covent Garden

Shake Shack open its doors mid last year, I think, in Covent Garden and it's taken me this long to pop along and see if they measured up to the local competition and the original in New York.
The set up is the same, a long queue, friendly folks to take your order, a frantic search for a table, buzzers to let you know when your food is ready, a different queue to collect, grab your condiments, you sit, you eat. Yup about the same.....
I've been passed many a time, but with the queues normally stretching back around the corner, no way is a burger worth that ... So for months I'd waited, forgot, revisited, gone elsewhere, until finally a small queue and bugger why not...
I've been munching on quite a few burgers recently, some good, some bloody awful and some dull as .. So what would Shake Shack be, would it kick my ass or would it be a lame duck...

So all of Shake Shack's burgers are ground fresh daily from 100% Aberdeen Angus steers, grass fed in the magical highlands of Scotland, so they say ... Which cut they use I've no idea, but would be nice to know .....
So one Double ShackBurger and a Single SmokeShack, normal fries and cheese fries, a coke and a strawberry milkshake were ordered ....
I didn't pay too much attention to the hype that surrounded the opening last summer and I missed everyone bemoaning them, as if they were expecting the 2nd coming or something, fuck man, it's only a burger ...

All their burgers come in rather tasty, lightly toasted potato style buns, the ShackShack sauce a rather tangy mayo that adds a good deal of juice to the burger, although the patty's are juicy enough as it is.. Lettuce is crunchy, tomato's are sliced thin enough served in a small sachet to keep that grease in...
As I said the burgers are most, cooked to medium, seasoned well, tasty and well do the job, no they are no world beaters like too many people were expecting or believing the hype, they are just good pieces of meat in bun, not the best in London, but by no means the worst... But they did for the briefest time transport me back to Madison Square Garden in New York ......

The crinkle fries are good and crispy, the cheese fries were disappointing lacking cheese sauce, guys when you say cheese fries, put some bloody cheese sauce on them. The strawberry shake was thick and cold, just how I like them ...

Shack Shake here is the same in New York, it's is not a gourmet burger, if you are wanting this then you're gonna have to pay a lot more than what they charge, although I think their prices are slightly inflated, but it is what it is .... Would I return, probably, well as long as the queue was only a few minutes .....
